Parliamentarians’ expenditure from 1 July to 31 December 2009

The Government has today tabled three reports outlining Parliamentarians‟ expenditure from 1 July to 31 December 2009.

The reports include:

Parliamentarians' Expenditure Paid by the Department of Finance and Deregulation;
Former Parliamentarians' Expenditure Paid by the Department of Finance and Deregulation; and
Parliamentarians' Overseas Study Travel Reports.

“This tabling period marks another first for the Government,” Senator Ludwig said.

“This is the first time expenditure, other than travelling allowances and travel expenses, has been tabled in the Parliament.”

“Since coming to office we have moved to put in place clear rules to improve the transparency of the parliamentary entitlements framework.”

“The tabling of these reports reaffirms the Government„s continued commitment to enhance accountability and transparency.”

The tabling reports now include:

office facilities costs;
office administrative costs, including:
- office consumables and services;
- printing and communications; and
- publications.
travel allowances and travel expenses for both domestic and overseas travel, including family travel costs; and
overseas study travel reports from Senators and Members.
