APS recognised in United Nations 2010 Public Service Awards

Cabinet Secretary, Senator the Hon Joe Ludwig today congratulated APS agencies for their success in international public sector awards. The Australian Electoral Commission and the National Blood Authority have each won a United Nations Public Service Award for 2010.

The AEC was first place winner (Asia and the Pacific) in Category 2: Improving the delivery of public services for its work in the development and support of the Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections program.

The BRIDGE program has been an important part of the AEC’s international engagement.

The NBA was first place winner (Asia and the Pacific) in Category 4, Advancing Knowledge Management in Government for its “Knowledge Network.”

“I am delighted to recognise the work of the AEC and NBA in this endeavour, and congratulate them for their success on the international stage,” Senator Ludwig said.

“The Rudd Government is committed to ensuring that Australians get the highest standards of public service in the world.”

The NBA’s work strongly aligns with the recommendations in the Blueprint for the Reform of Australian Government Administration, in particular its recommendations around engaging citizens in program design, incorporating non-government expertise, strengthening workforce development and ensuring agility, capability and effectiveness.
