The Australian Government today announced the delivery of a whole-of-government strategic ICT workforce plan and ICT career structure.
The Australian Public Service (APS) now has strategies in place to improve the recruitment, retention and engagement of ICT personnel.
Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Lindsay Tanner said the career structure was another of the recommendations from the Gershon review the Government had delivered.
“Our aim is to have a workforce that can meet the Federal Government’s future ICT needs,” Lindsay Tanner said.
“That workforce needs to be sufficiently skilled and mobile to apply the new technologies that will deliver improved services to Australians. This workforce plan and career structure goes a long way to achieving that.”
The whole-of-government strategic ICT workforce plan provides a high level overview of the issues affecting the ICT workforce and strategies to address the future human capital needs of ICT employment in the Australian Public Service.
Using this plan, agencies will be better able to plan, develop and manage a qualified and flexible ICT workforce, while providing an attractive career path for ICT professionals within the APS.
Senator Ludwig, Special Minister of State said the whole-of-government strategic ICT workforce plan and career structure will provide APS leaders with the ability to better manage and develop their ICT workforce.
“This better positions the ICT workforce within the public service to progress the Government’s priorities, and improve the delivery of services to all Australians.”
