Cabinet Secretary, Senator Joe Ludwig, today welcomed the release of the report, Ahead of the Game – Blueprint for the Reform of Australian Government Administration.
“I extend my thanks to the Advisory Group for their important work on this Blueprint, which generated much discussion and many well-considered submissions,” Senator Ludwig said.
“This whole scale review was undertaken in consultation with the Australian Public Service and the wider Australian community.”
The Blueprint recommends nine interdependent reforms to equip the Australian Public Service to meet the needs of citizens, provide strong leadership and strategic direction, maintain and build a highly capable workforce and operate efficiently and at a consistently high standard.
“As the Minister with responsibility for the Australian Public Service Commission, I’m pleased the Blueprint proposes a central role for the APSC to unite and lead the public service, driving change and providing strategic planning for public-service wide issues,” Senator Ludwig said.
“The Blueprint also focuses on issues such as open and transparent government and public service capability and accountability, which are some of the key objectives of the Rudd Labor Government.”
“If citizens are to collaborate as partners with government, access to information is essential.”
“The recommendations complement important work already being undertaken in this area, including the Government’s reforms to freedom of information laws, the Government 2.0 Taskforce report and the response to the Australian Law Reform Commission’s report into Australia’s privacy laws.”
The Government will consider the recommendations made in the Blueprint and respond later in the year.
