Cabinet Secretary, Senator Joe Ludwig, tonight congratulated the Victorian Department of Justice for winning the Grand Award at the 2009 Australian Privacy Awards in Sydney.
The Australian Privacy Awards were initiated by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in 2008 to recognise organisations with good privacy practices.
“The Victorian Department of Justice is to be commended for its innovation and leadership in privacy,” Senator Ludwig said.
“The Department has implemented a broad range of privacy-enhancing initiatives within its organisation, to encourage protection of personal information.”
Senator Ludwig also presented the 2009 Privacy Medal to Dr Roger Clarke, a vocal advocate for Australians’ privacy rights for over 30 years.
“Dr Clarke has made a significant contribution to the development of privacy in Australia, particularly through the integration of privacy in identity management and new technologies,” Senator Ludwig said.
“An information privacy consultant and academic, Dr Clarke provides privacy advice to government and corporate bodies both locally and overseas.”
“I would also like to congratulate Australian Customs and Border Protection Service for taking out the award in the Government category.”
