Cabinet Secretary, Senator Joe Ludwig, today recognised the important work of Fred Brenchley, a noted author and journalist and member of the Old Parliament House Advisory Council.
Mr Brenchley died on Saturday after a battle with cancer.
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Brenchley who I reappointed to the Old Parliament House Advisory Council only recently,” Senator Ludwig said.
A well regarded author and journalist, Mr Brenchley was a former editor of the Australian Financial Review.
He later became general manager of the Sydney newspaper operations for Fairfax and spent six years as a correspondent for the Bulletin magazine.
More recently Mr Brenchley worked as a columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald.
“Mr Brenchley was a well respected figure in Australia,” Senator Ludwig said.
“Mr Brenchley was first appointed to the Old Parliament House Advisory Council in March 2005 and this year I had the pleasure of reappointing him for a further two year term.”
“He brought a breadth of knowledge and experience to Old Parliament House and made a great contribution to the Council.”
“I extend my sincere condolences to the Brenchley family.”
