Cabinet Secretary, Senator John Faulkner, today announced the appointment of two new members to the National Archives of Australia’s Advisory Council.
The new appointments are historian Dr Mickey Dewar from Charles Darwin University in Darwin and Professor Mick Dodson AM, Director of the National Centre for Indigenous Studies at the Australian National University in Canberra.
‘Dr Dewar and Professor Dodson bring new skills and further expertise to the Advisory Council and it is very exciting to have them on board,’ said Senator Faulkner. ‘Dr Dewar is the first Northern Territorian appointed and Professor Dodson is the first Indigenous Australian on the Council.’
The role of the Advisory Council is to provide advice to the Minister and the Director-General about functions of the National Archives, either on request or of its own accord.
Other members of the National Archives of Australia’s Advisory Council include Mr Paul Santamaria S.C. (Chairman) Mr Peter Grant, Senator Kate Lundy, the Hon Alex Somlyay MP, Mr Ian Hancock, Mr Roland Perry, Mr Aladin Rahemtula, Mr David Irvine AO, Dr Helen Irving, Dr Dianne Snowden and Professor John Williams.
